More rules (and more!) for your improved Reddit experience.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:38 PM PDT

    Hey there!

    Who doesn't love rules?

I know I do, so I have the great pleasure of introducing 4 new rules (and one rule update!) that we think will improve clarity and cut down on spammy and/or low-effort posts. We also have a few announcements to make, so buckle in this ones a big one!

    Tech support rule:

No tech support or account support requests. As a community, we do not possess the ability to assist with these and recommend that you go directly to Riot Support.

Pretty straightforward, we can't help you here if you're having issues with your account. We aren't Riot. You should probably go to Riot. There is also a dedicated subreddit! /r/Valoranttechsupport. It's a community where they hope people can share fixes for issues.

    Rant Rule:

Rants are not allowed. Hyperbolic, acerbic, or otherwise inflammatory expressions of dissatisfaction will be classified as a "rant" and removed. Additionally, posts complaining about your games/placements/rank are not allowed either.

Rage to your friends, or to your pet, or the boomers in your life who are bound to not understand anyway. Don't do it here. At the end of the day it's just a game and we're all here to have fun (I think?).

    Clarifying "Private Individuals"

    The old rule was such:

Posts calling out private individuals breaking Riot's Terms of Service are disallowed.

This includes, but is not limited to, directly naming people, posting screenshots with visible or non-visible names, videos of users breaking Terms of Service.

We are going to be rewording our "private individuals" rule to the following:

Posts calling out private individuals demonstrating toxicity and/or breaking Riot's Terms of Service are disallowed.

This includes, but is not limited to, directly naming people, posting screenshots with visible or non-visible names, videos of users breaking Terms of Service. Some common examples that violate this rule are players cheating, exploiting, abusive voice chat, abusive text chat or griefing.

This is basically a more encompassing definition of the same thing, to better cover the spirit of the rule and give it better readability so it's comprehended better.

    English only rule:

Posts and comments must be in English

As much as we would like for you to be able to speak in your native tongue(s) we are unfortunately unable to moderate many languages and, as a result, want to ensure we enforce the rules fairly and equally. Therefore, going forward please make sure comments and posts are in English.

    Rioter pin command:

This one is not a rule, it's an announcement. We will be trialing a new system that allows Rioters to request that a bot sticky their comment to the top of a thread, when they feel that their comment answers the topic at hand. We're still working on the full details, but you will likely start seeing some of these show up during the next few days. Threads will not be tagged with a flair if a rioter stickies their comment. This is because we don't want to impact voting on the subreddit, but still want users to see replies from Riot.

Ultimately, Rioters still want to shitpost on the sub and interact with users, so we want to give them power over what ends up being elevated as an "official" response vs silly comments that they post to be a part of the community. Our hope is that this implementation will help users while not discouraging rioters from participating here. This will start as a 30 day trial, and we'll look to get feedback from both users and rioters at the end of it before deciding whether or not to make it permanent.

Feedback wanted: Esports on our subreddit

Recently our team has put in some effort to help get esports off the ground here on /r/VALORANT. We want to hear your feedback on what we're doing well, or what we can improve on. We've started live threads like you've seen over on /r/Leagueoflegends, added info to our sidebar, and we got into contact with the Post-match team you see on other subreddits and they've come through with some awesome post game threads during the most recent tournament.

However, if there's any suggestions/room for improvement or just positive feedback you'd like to leave us. Please do so!

Please let us know what you think about these changes!

    Cypher's secret identity

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:48 AM PDT

Okay, so this might sound like a fever dream, almost like Omen being an octopus. But listen, there's evidence here. What I'm about to reveal is Cypher's true identity. Did you think his name was Ameer? No, no. It's Armando. Staying with the letter A helped avoid mistakes when he went into hiding. He's actually rapper Pitbull, Mr. Worldwide.

First you're probably saying, but he's from Morocco. Well, Pitbull is Mr. Worldwide, he's from everywhere and anywhere he wants to be. But I'll go through my evidence and attach a link to the proof below.

    1. Cypher's voiceline "And injured dog bites hard.", right there, Cypher is referring to himself as a dog. Why? Well because he spent years going by the name of Pitbull.
    2. Their sense of style and posture is almost identical, white outfits and bald heads. Check Cypher's headshape without his hat, there's no padding for hair. Yes, we know Cypher is cybernetic, but that's just part of the autotune Pitbull needed to go through.
    3. They're both known activists. Once kingdom came around, Pitbull couldn't be as public in his activism, so he became an information broker instead. In his music videos, you can see that he is clearly adept at surveillance and using cameras; as well as already trading information with Chris Brown (A whole different theory on that one)
    4. Think about it, Kingdom took Venice, right? We have no proof that they didn't hit another sea-side city by the name of Miami. They probably took it out and left Pitbull injured, hence the cybernetic augmentation and having to relocate.
    5. Cypher's lines show him as having known what being wealthy is like, a wealth that was taken from him. So he has lines like "Spend like there is no tomorrow, because there just might not be" and "Time is money, only difference is I own it". Pitbull is a highly wealthy artist.

Riot was cheeky in hiding the truth, they left hints like the Bulldog gun. It's first skin? Couture. A white skin, very much like the suits Cypher and Pitbull both wear. Not to mention, it had the word Bull in it. Did you think that was because it was a bullpup rifle? No, it's an obvious reference right there. And what does couture refer to? Fashion, something Pitbull is known for.

There's plenty more, but my lunch break is running short. Please find below photo evidence of some of these things and help Riot release the truth!

Valorant needs HTRF (Better Directional Audio)

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:21 PM PDT

CS:GO used to have audio processing software similar to valorant, then it was updated and it is essentially night and day. With HRTF you can hear how far someone is with more precision, and you can even hear if they are above or below you. Many people are having trouble spotting the exact locations people are running in especially since all maps are very close quartered. IMO Hopefully they proritise this within the next few months. Thoughts?

    Edit: HRTF, not HTRF

This one was done faster but that's because he was a lot of fun to draw. Raze will come next very soon and meanwhile you can tell me your suggestions in the replies section

UNRATED and COMPETITIVE need a distinct background or something. Far too often I started Unrated instead of Competitive.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:06 AM PDT

Minor gripe ofcourse but I'm getting a bit bored when I accidently start Unrated.

Also would be nice to have a different agentselect background for each map, for now always The Range is in the back.

Nvm, it's Ascent so they will probably put the next map as background for the next Act.

Riot should make a "maximum ping allowed" option like in CS:GO

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:25 AM PDT

    (Sorry for my bad english)
It's pretty annoying that I get connected to servers that I get 150-200 ping on. However on the game after, I get around 40-70 ms, then the whole thing just repeats all over. My internet connection is stable despite this, which makes me wonder why I always connect to high ping ones.

Riot should make a setting that only lets you connect to servers which you set beforehand. For example, I can only connect to servers that meet the less than 90ms setting I've set.

Peeking into VALORANT's Netcode - Riot Games Technology Blog

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:55 AM PDT

Please don’t surrender early or be that teammate that throws because of a bad half.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:46 AM PDT

Just played a rank game on split and ended up coming back from 0-8. We got thrashed first half on attack,(with me going kill less for 8 rounds) but ended up winning the last 4 games on attack to make it 4-8. My team was still very positive surprisingly and believed we had a chance since split is a very defense heavy map. We ended up going on a 9 game streak, went to overtime after a couple back and forth rounds, then eventually won 14-12. I was kill less majority of the first half but ended up going 30-16 and getting match mvp. Too many players have a give up or quit mindset which I feel breeds toxicity. Too many times have I seen people scapegoat bottom frag for a loss when in reality the whole team was at fault.

TLDR: Games not over till it's over

Just had 3 of my teammates in Ranked disconnect and get black screen while the enemy still had 5 people. We went from 8-5 to losing 8-13 :(

PSA: Raze's Boom Bot does not detect you inside of a smoke.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:39 AM PDT

If you're sitting in a Brimm and Jett smokes, the enemy's Boom Bot WILL NOT DETECT YOU. I hit Valorant in Closed Beta and currently sitting IM2 now, and I STILL see Immortal players not know this.

This goes both ways (obviously). If you send your Boom Bot through a smoke, that does NOT mean the area is clear. In fact, it's highly possible that an enemy is sitting inside of it with a Shorty.

This does not apply to Omen and Viper smokes. The Boom Bot will detect you inside of those.

Edit: /u/Adam_Wesley made a good point. You can flash all drones so they don't see you.

    Have a great day :)

    100T Hiko's Response to Killjoy

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:46 PM PDT

(Opinion) I Believe Killjoy Shouldn't Be Available in Competitive For a Couple Weeks.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:40 AM PDT

The reasoning behind this is solely down to competitive integrity.

I believe that having her disabled in ranked for a couple of weeks gives us, chances to find the bugs and gather opinions on her numbers (taking raw stat data into account) to communicate back to Riot with feedback.

This also gives Riot a chance to iron out all the creases so that certain bugs are abused that pose a threat to your rank. Currently we don't have access to any sort of PTR (Public Test Realm) to test Killjoy and provide feedback on the Agent.

I hope people take this into account and understand where I'm coming from, I wouldn't want to be cheated out of my rank because of a bug.
