| In plat solo queue I had a teammate who was deaf Posted: 26 Aug 2020 11:44 AM PDT The first few seconds after we all picked our agents the omen said "hello everyone! :) I am a deaf player so please use pings and typing to communicate with me". Now I felt really bad because I expected this guy to get flamed by the other randoms, however everyone in the entire game was very helpful pinging and typing to support this omen. The omen ended up top fragging and we did a 13-0 which I had never done before. Not much point in this story but I just wanted to tell it so we'd have examples of the valorant community coming together and not being toxic but being supportive. | The Problem with Valorant's Report System Posted: 25 Aug 2020 04:09 PM PDT A while ago I received a 72-hour chat restriction on my main account even though I hardly used voice or text chat. I was baffled. I had only used voice or text chat for call outs for strategy and nothing else, so what did I do to receive a chat restriction? I contacted Valorant support, and as many others have, I got the scripted response saying I was restricted from voice and text communications due to "disruptive behavior" and that they could not provide any details on why the restriction was put in place. So, I decided to do an experiment. I would make a brand-new Riot and Valorant account and see if I could get a chat ban restriction when I had never used any form of communication. I would not use text chat, voice chat, the ping system, the communication wheel, or even request for weapons. Basically, anything that could be considered communication would be avoided. I decided that I would have to borderline "sabotage" games in order to gain reports to see if a chat restriction was possible without communication. Starting with the 20 unrated games and then moving to competitive, I would only use pistols and not really try in any way. In almost every game at least one person would call me out and say they were reporting me and usually told everyone in the game to report me as well. I played the 20 unrated games and the 5 placement games and got placed in Iron 1. After 2 games in Iron 1, I received a chat restriction for 72 hours even with no communication used at all. So, I had discovered that chat restrictions are possible even without communicating at all, but this left with more questions. Why was I chat restricted, but not restricted or banned from playing competitive or Valorant in general? Is a 72-hour chat restriction just the default punishment for all offenses or had I simply been falsely reported for abusive communication so many times that I received the chat ban? Is it even possible to be restricted or banned from playing competitive or Valorant for sabotaging games? I decided that I would continue to sabotage games to answer these questions. I wanted to be banned from playing, so I decided to be more egregious in my sabotage. This time, I would purposely use damaging abilities (I played phoenix normally) on my teammates and only use the knife as a weapon for every game. I played 5 games a day (15 games total) during the 72-hour chat ban and was told I was being reported multiple times by multiple people each game. However, I was never restricted or banned from playing competitive or Valorant in any way. After my chat ban was over, I decided to continue to sabotage and was only able to play 10 games in this manner before I received another 72-hour chat ban. At this point, I figured my experiment to be done since I had learned more than enough. I learned that:
Now, this is quite the problem because it can be easily abused. There have been many games that I have been in where someone on the other team says in all chat "Report *insert name here* for saying the n word in voice/team chat" or to report their bottom frag for throwing. I almost always see at least one person, if not multiple people, say "reported" afterwards even when they have no evidence to report the individual. This can be even more problematic when you are playing with a toxic duo, three man, or four man, as they can easily lie to the other team to convince them to report you. I mean, multiple people on your team are saying you are doing something wrong so you must be, right? If you are playing with a toxic four man and they convince the whole other team to report you, that's 9 reports right there for something you didn't even do. I am not saying you will be banned for just 9 reports, but false reports are common and can add up, especially in a game with a community as toxic as Valorant. TL;DR It is possible to get chat banned without communicating in any way. Purposely sabotaging games does not get you a competitive ban, but rather gets you a 72-hour chat restriction. They use their flash, but don't follow it in, rather, they watch the rest of us go in to set up the trade and they hide safely around the corner then bitch when it suddenly becomes a 5v2 and they just full bought. They use the boombot and grenades with no follow. The controllers use their smokes and they just sit there waiting for someone to do something. Please don't be that guy. Sovas shockdart also goes through, easy to pull off with after plant I have tested it with raze grenade and the other killjoy abilities, but it didnt work.
