    Agent Lore: Omen

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 11:49 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I've been playing Valorant for a few months now and I, like a lot of you, absolutely love playing Omen. Aside from his abilities offering a lot of value, he is easily the most mysterious agent in the current lineup, and I couldn't help but to come up with my own theory for his background and abilities. Most of the evidence for this theory will be from voice lines and some amount of speculation will be involved. I'll also rely on other popular theories that have not been confirmed yet, so bear with me. That being said, here's my take on who or what exactly Omen is.

Omen was once a scientist or a researcher who worked with Viper. They likely worked on the same research program involving radianite and its uses.

I think the following voice lines captures this perfectly:

    • "Sabine, look at the monsters we've become! At least you have flesh to hide your horror."
    • If you also happen to kill the enemy team's viper he says - "Experiment complete."

I'm fairly confident that the theory Viper = Sabine is true and there's evidence in her voice lines to support it.

In an experiment gone wrong, he sacrificed himself to save the lives of others and this led to his physical body being completely ripped apart.

This is evident in these following lines:

    • "Make the right choice even if it calls for sacrifice."
    • "Split? Ah, They don't know the meaning of the word."
    • When he spots the enemy team's omen he literally says it - "There is another of me. How many times did I get ripped apart? How many times did I die?"

So what happened to Omen? He no longer has a true physical body and does not exist in the same way that other agents do. He is in a superposition of existing everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I'm not too good with quantum mechanics so I won't even try to explain how that happened but I'm reasonably certain that's how he exists. He literally says the line "I am everywhere" and the best evidence for this is also an explanation as to how his teleportation ability works. Whenever Omen teleports, he just goes back into a state of superposition and collapses into existence at the location he wants to be at.

He manages to maintain a semblance of a physical form due to the armor he wears and his sheer willpower. However, it is an extremely painful process and requires him to be constantly in focus of his own existence. Imagine trying to keep yourself from being ripped apart into infinite states of existence and then having to willfully let go of it to use your ability.

These following lines are evidence of how he feels:

    • "Keep yourself together! You can't fall apart now."
    • "I feel the strain... block it out, Omen."
    • "If I must live in this nightmare my enemies might as well join me."
    • "I let go for a second..." - Response to Sage reviving him.
    • "Now rest,You can finally let go." - Response to killing enemy Omen.

His armor helps him hold onto his current existence and allows him to slip in and out of that physical form. If you check his ult animation, it looks like he is ripping himself/his armor apart before he actually teleports. If you also look at the character design, his entire body is covered up and where there are slight gaps like in his arm you can see energy spilling out.

On a side note - I personally believe his armor is radianite powered and subscribe to the idea that the spike somehow steals or takes away radianite. The theory goes that all the agents are affected by the spike either because they are physically powered by radianite such as Reyna or Phoenix or they are infused with radianite technology like Brimstone and Killjoy. If that was the case then Omen dies from the spike because it affects his armor and does not allow him to exist physically in one place anymore. As a character he also dies from being shot at because it destroys his armor.

Whenever Omen uses any of his teleportation abilities, his current instance dies and he picks where he wants to be and pops into existence there. I use the term "die" liberally here since I don't think he himself would consider it to be death. Even if he did, death itself is meaningless to him. His player card and voice line is indicative of this and reads - What's another death? After all, what is death to someone who exists beyond it.

This is where I'm going to go entirely into the realm of speculation.

Omen is a fragment of the terrifying dark realm of possibility and nothingness that outlines all of existence. He is simultaneously dead and not dead because he exists everywhere and nowhere at the same time (hence the name Revenant you can unlock in his contract). For his allies and foes he is the dark reminder that the underlying truth to all of reality is the dark realm he belongs to. When they see him they are reminded of the dark fate that await all of existence and they can't help but be filled with existential dread (hence the name Harbinger). It is for these reasons that his code-name is Omen.Underneath all of it though, he is still just a man forced to live through a nightmare of unfathomable pain at every given moment. He also willfully undergoes some of this pain so that he may put his abilities to good use and to help others. Aside from all of this he endures a lot of psychological pain in the process of holding his form together. There are even voice lines that indicate he hates himself:

    • "Can't even remember the spike?"
    • "Shameful Performance"

So if you ever see Omen out in the field be sure to give him a hug. God knows he's already in a lot of pain and he needs it. Who knows, you may even be able to help him keep it together.

[TLDR] Omen was once a scientist who ended up being the victim of a terrible experiment or research program gone wrong. The event made him end up in a state of constantly existing everywhere and nowhere at the same time. He uses his armor and sheer willpower to hold himself together to take on a physical form. Whenever he uses his teleportation abilities he dies and comes into existence elsewhere. As a result of his abilities and existence, he is in constant pain mentally and physically. Probably a good idea to give him a hug if you ever see him.

Being a humble low-Gold player is a sin. And the punishment shall be absolute.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 09:05 AM PST

Hello friendos. I bring a story of joy and suffering.

Somehow, I managed to overcome my debilitating sausage fingers and reach Gold in both Acts 1 & 2.

It was a time of sweet gaiety and hope.

I, an ex-League of Legends Gold hardstuck-player, was happy with this. I knew my overall personal mediocrity, reflected in my gaming performance, was still unsullied.

Gold is a fine, fine rank to belong in.

Get out, you diamond-immortal street craving female canines! Your nonsense does NOT merit my time.

But alas! Act 3 would prove I had indeed, plenty to fear. Gold is not my place after all.

Numerous high-performing, high-IQ, superb-physique fellow Silver-Gold players are MASSIVELY BETTER than a humble servant, lately! How fortuitous. Well it happens. I may be getting old for these 900 APM zoomers. I can barely get out of Silver 3 now. And am usually bottom frag.

I will start looking for some Silver-tier discord communities to get into, I guess. Send any good links by DM if you dare.

Ah! I will also abandon the subreddit effective immediately, since it is clear by Rule 16. that silver elo players and below do not deserve the fine privilege of merely breathing air, let alone have an opinion on any bugs or OP agents or weapon imbalances, or any other such complex matters which I keep failing to appropriately articulate! Hope you can still understand where I come from, before rightfully insulting my bare Ag47 arse.

Here is a fresh example of such a happenstance. What an impressive use of Reyna! If only could I...

She taught me an invaluable lesson (oh boy, do I fancy that mexican lady) and I have learned.

It will not happen again. This, is a promise.

    Goodbye.

I'm a handicapped gamer with cerebral palsy, But I can still play Valorant because I created a custom setup. (Picture in the description)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 05:37 PM PST

Hello Reddit, I have mild cerebral palsy in my left arm and leg. This means that the fine motor skills in my left hand limit me from being able to play normally with a mouse and keyboard. It is difficult for me to use the WASD keys for maneuvering my character.

At first I tried to play with an Xbox controller but I quickly found that it is useless against other players using mouse and keyboard.

I needed to think of a way where I could still play with the precision of a mouse but have the ability to use my left hand to move my character around.

Many years ago I seen an ad for the Razer Naga, a mouse that has 12 buttons on the side. I thought to myself I could use that to bind character abilities too, which means I'd be able to use a mouse to play.

however I still need to figure out how I can effectively use the WASD keys with my left hand. I learned of a program that allows you to bind any input device such as a controller or a flight stick to any key you want on the keyboard, this is how I played certain games with a Xbox controller when they didn't have native support for Xbox controllers.

So I decided to buy a flight stick and bind it to the WASD keys so when I move my flight stick left it pushes the "A" key to go left if I move it to the right it pushes the "D" key to go right etc.

Thus I was finally able to play Valorant with nearly the same level of fairness as any other player.

So far this setup has only one drawback, And that is that when using the flight stick to maneuver I cannot maneuver keys as fast as normal. So I can't do things like jiggle peeking for example.

Here Is a picture of my gaming setup. https://ibb.co/LnsJP3z

(Little off topic) my dream job is to open up a computer repair shop where I not only repair computers but I also build custom gaming rigs for people with disabilities. I mean just think of all the people out there that can't do anything like walk or talk or move, all those people wheelchair bound, or bedridden ect. wouldn't it be such a great gift to give them the power of the internet and it's glory. I think about the uses of VR and custom setups that I can make, I think about how I can put somebody in a VR headset and set up a rig that would allow them to be fully immersed in a world and do the things that they could never do in real life.

There are so many options out there, so many different devices, And furthermore I even have ideas for so much more. And so many people don't know that these devices even exist.

Ah yes that is my dream, perhaps one day when I get myself together I can achieve that.

Jett issue that Riot needs to address ASAP.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:58 PM PST

Let me paint you a picture.

It's a 4 on 1 situation in favor of your team and the one enemy left decides to save and hide from you guys. Time runs out and you win the round. Jett goes "There you are you little shit.". No, Jett, you didn't find the little shit.

"Let abilities be different" is the worst excuse for keeping abilities too strong.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 09:35 AM PST

I've seen this a lot since Skye was released, pretty much only in reference to the noise her flashes make. It doesn't even make sense considering the fact that they are different. Remove the noise and they are still very different then every other flash in the game. Phoenix has to be right next to his and only gets 2. Breach gets 3 but requires a wall to use them. Both cost 200 for them. Skye's are a fully maneuverable flash that can be used as a pop flash and tells you when someone gets flashed, and you get up to three, and you get one for free, and they only cost 100. Removing the sound indicator on flash doesn't make them the same as any other flash, stop using this excuse. Skye is super unique as is, removing one thing on her flash isn't going to make her not.

Matched with Immortals in a Silver Competitive game...

Matched with Immortals in a Silver Competitive game...

We couldn't win a single round. The worst part is that they trash talked us the whole game. They said they couldn't win in immortals so they threw their placements so they could crap on the lower ranks. When we asked why they thought this would be okay, they said they took commissions to boost players in lower ranks because "people have to make a living". We had no choice but to surrender :(.

My team felt so salty and bitter the whole game and after. Idk if there's something that can be done about this but I just wanted to share that there are people out there doing this. Feels bad man.

The idea of grinding a whole day is unrealistic

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 04:19 AM PST

I think when we watch streamers stream competitive for countless hours every day and constantly hitting the play button over and over again, it is easy to feel like you have to do the same thing to be on the same level or that is the most optimal way to improve. I am here to tell you that this is entirely false.

I have been in the same exact spot where I feel like if I don't play 10+ matches a day I am not improving as much as I should be. While it's true that playing the game will lead to improvement, playing when you are burnt out will lead to low quality games and therefore very small if not NO improvement. These low quality games can also cause you to tilt more and you end up enjoying the game less. This can lead to you being tunnel visioned on "Improve. Improve. Improve." and forget that the real reason you started playing the game is because you found it FUN! In my opinion just playing the games where you are genuinely enjoying yourselves is the optimal to improving.

Tilting can cause you to leave passive aggressive hints towards your teammates and cause them to tilt. This triggers a domino effect, lowering everyone's mood and chance of winning / improvement; quality of gameplay. So hey, don't feel like you have to play every minute of the day in order to improve, do it in your own pace, do it consistently and you will see growth.

    Community Spotlight: Meet Skye

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 08:06 AM PST

I ranked up(SoloQ) from Bronze 2 to Plat 1 in Act 3. Just some points that might help other people.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 06:52 AM PST

I know Plat 1 is not that high, but coming from bronze, its quite an achievement.

    1. Don't auto-lock any agent and try to learn atleast 3-4 agents. I only played Omen and Jett earlier but I started playing Cypher, Sova, Killjoy.

    2. I changed my sensitivity. I was playing at 0.4, 1200 dpi. I changed it to 0.26, 1200 dpi(copied flexinja's settings). The same settings might not work for you but try to make your sensitivity as low as possible.

    3. Just mute toxic people. They're not gonna give any helpful callouts.

    4. Stop caring too much about your rank. Just try to win every game you can. And don't let a bad first half let you down. It possible to comeback and win from 9-3 or 10-2 halves.

    5. Frags don't mean everything. When you get frags and how many rounds you clutch out is more important. Try to be calm during clutches and tell your teammates to stfu.

    6. Learn using the operator if you don't. It is a really good weapon and can win you rounds. Also learn Sheriff. It is really good for Eco rounds.

Might update if I remember something.

Riot should not make the same mistake as Ubisoft did with Rainbow Six Siege

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:48 AM PST

Let me start with my opinion that I really like Valorant, it's a refreshing take on the FPS genre. I've played it since beta and coming from Siege I think it's fun, new, easy to learn - hard to master and challenging.

However, lately I'm not sure what Riot has been doing. I fully understand there's different teams within a developer but I can't help to notice the focus of Riot has been on the wrong things.

    1. Stutter issue has been in the game (for more and more players) since this act. The only information we got was a tweet and supposed fix (nothing was fixed in 1.11 regarding stuttering, check the Meta bug post) - after this? No new information / updates. I really think Riot should address this, even if it's a Tweet / post saying; Ok guys, it didn't fix it in 1.11, we're working on it. I can't play the game at the moment without stuttering across the map, I've tried dozens of 'fixes' but nothing is helping. I've decided to quit until there is a fix.
    2. Releasing patches / new agents in the middle of esports events (First Strike qualifiers). This one is kinda obvious. Ubisoft has been doing the same (albeit, nowadays there's a certain period before new agents are available within esport events), it never worked out. There are unexpected bugs, new agents in the meta need to adjust (or not) and nothing good ever comes from releasing patches right before big events. If Riot want this game to grow as a competitive one they need to rethink their strategy. Not simply releasing agents / new maps for the sake of it. They either need to choose esports or the 'normal' players. There's no middle ground in my opinion.
    3. Communication - Riot has been doing an ok job at communication but I think it could be better. I also think it's weird we need to gather additional patch notes from Developer tweets instead of reading it in the patch notes.
    4. Bug fixes. Basically point 1 but Ubisoft had the same problem with Siege. At the rate they are releasing new patches, agents, abilities, maps, etc there will be more bugs, which is 'fine and expected' - but they need to address these faster. In the end the bugs will catch up with you and they can't keep it up anymore - making the game more and more unplayable. It would also help if there is a official list with bugs, so people know what you are working on.

Again, I really like Valorant as a game and I think it's healthy for the competitive FPS scene to have multiple games they can choose from. It would be a shame to see Valorant die after such a good start.

Cheers and have a nice day.

    1.15 Patch Notes (joke)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 03:23 PM PST

    Sentinels

So it seems that people still want to play sentinel agents! We've actually decided to remove the legs of all sentinel characters, we thought that it is just too powerful, and being a defense oriented class, it being a suitable nerf. Of course, the other players will be able to carry them and place them in spots they need to defend.

    Cypher

We felt Cypher's utility is still a bit too powerful after making it so he could not retrieve them in the 1.13 patch!

After 20 seconds of being deployed Cypher's trapwires will become visible.

    Breach

We will be giving Breach his 5th flash this patch as his pick rate has not increased to a point that we would like.

We also reduced the cooldown of his signature ability, faultline.

    40 > 20 seconds

To balance these changes we made to breach we increased the volume of his footsteps. His arms are getting heavy carrying the team.

Quickest way to unlock agents as a new player?

    [FAN ART] Sage drawing

    Hello everybody!

This is my first valorant drawing of my favorite character in this game, which is Sage!

I mainly draw pets (you can check my work here if you want to) but I tried to do some videogames art in these last few days. The next one I'll be doing will be probably Reyna, or should I do viper? Please feel free to leave your opinion on the comments and I hope you like this illustration!

    Recent nerf trends & agents

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:03 AM PST

Sentinel agents already have an economy disadvantage, considering controllers, initiators and duelists have better abilities for aggressive play at lower credit requirements and ult point requirements.

Map design is the main issue here and not the agent play styles.

If I spend 600 credits every round as Cypher and frag a ton, It means I'm just better at using the abilities creatively and converting them to kills.

Why would Riot nerf the trip wires and camera so hard in their functionality and also their impact on economy.

The most expensive agent in the game gets the biggest nerfs whereas they are ok with Omen being the best agent with only 400 credits full buy.

These nerfs and balancing are just plain ridiculous. If Riot is balancing agents based on pick rates, the best way to save Sentinels is to not pick them at any rank till the point they buff them back.

IMO, just disabling trips and camera would be a good enough nerf. Why go the extra mile and reveal them to all and also make unused trip wire non carry forward able.

    Homophobic abuse

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 03:10 PM PST

Yo, older gay guy checking in. I'm completely blown away by the amount of homophobic slurs and abuse thrown over the voice and text chat in this game (playing on EU servers here). It used to be that I would just mute, etc and try to play through it, but it feels never-ending and triggers all this weird anxiety from growing up in my anti-gay, violent hometown.

When it happens, it makes me not even want to play and I sometimes just immediately Alt+F4 to go for a walk with the dogs.

Seems like there's nothing really to do about it? I'm almost having to report in every match.
