The different agent roles for dummies! (Not that you are dumb)

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:34 AM PST

A person new to the tactical shooter genre will probably be confused by the four agent roles. Well those people are in luck, because I, a random internet stranger with basically no expertise, can explain them.

Initiator: So you want to kill people, but you want to tenderize them first. Before engaging the enemy, you sprinkle some flashes/stuns and maybe preemptively discover their location. Initiator abilities excel at bullying people out of their positions. If you fervently hate campers, this is the role for you.

Controller: So you want to kill people, but you don't like how they also want to kill you. Fortunately, you can make it hard to be killed by blocking the enemy's vision of you and your team. You want to make it so that your enemies can't just stumble into an area and be able to find you in two seconds. If you like to hide, this is the role for you.

Sentinel: So you want to kill people, but you also want to play with your cool toys. Sentinel abilities make it hell for enemies to get close to you. There's tripwires and turrets and a big rock, all obstacles for your opponents. A good sentinel makes the enemy team feel like they're trudging through no man's land. If you like to make life difficult for other people, this is the role for you.

Duelist: So you want to kill people. That's it. You kill people. If you aren't trying to constantly kill people, then you are either committing to a top-tier 5-star master plan that will clutch the game, or you forgot that you have to kill people as the kill-people class. If you're tired of planning and setting up, this is the role for you.

    Return "yes" voicelines

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:11 AM PST

dumb thing BUT I HATE THE NEW ONES SO MUCH

"I agree" ?????????? no one uses thatttt

    WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE THAT--

we all used to say "YES" and it was super fun tbh ("Yes" "No")

    I'm crying

What about making them separate voicelines instead? :') "Agree" and "Yes"

    that'd be better, everyone happy

(( Also, want to point out they avoid the "this is fine" spray on mid-round and I'm also mad about that, it was perfect :( ))

Option to block a teamate and never queue up with them ever again in low elo

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:02 AM PST

Seriously though this option will cause you to not play with anyone because of how toxic SEA server is. Just a moment ago, I queued up competitive and 4 of my teammates choosing duelists. I queued up with teammates who just keeps chatting the enemies and taunting causing them to die while typing. This game giving me stage 3 cancer at this point.

Took the bots for a walk outside!

I felt bad for the bots since they are always being massacred and are forced to stay inside so i decided to take them out for a walk so they can enjoy the fresh air, I hope they had a nice time!

    I've finally reached Radiant

    I've finally reached Radiant

I've finally reached Radiant after 2 seasons of solo Q. It took me 12 hours of grinding right after the new season started. I'm tired but it feels really good xD.

Got to Plat 3 on 60hz 60fps and some 10$ mouse since beta, placed silver, bought a new pc/165hz monitor in January and bought the gpro wireless about a week ago and finally got to Immortal, seriously a huge grind

Ok why is no one talking Astra's Ghost skin? It looks so good IMO

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 10:23 PM PST

Astra's 'Eclipse' ghost skin looks really cool, and I haven't seen anyone talking about it (but I also haven't really been on reddit a lot recently to be fair). This is already looking like one of the best ghost skins to me, but the battlepass ghost skin is looking pretty clean too.

As a Cypher main, I just love seeing good/better Cyphers on the enemy team.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:45 AM PST

Don't know why but I never get mad whenever I die to a Cypher outplay, i'm just like "wow i've never thought a tripwire or cam could be placed like that" or "that is exactly what I would do too if I were playing Cypher". It's so cool learning from them, meanwhile I almost always lose my shit everytime it's a different agent that outplays me lol.

Can't help but compliment the player when I encounter these things, do other camera boi mains out there feel the same way?

So I might have figured out what rating system Valorant uses

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:24 AM PST

WARNING: Do note that I did this out of sheer boredom so there could be some things I'm wrong on. I'm no statistics expert and most of the information I'm getting is just first-hand and from the internet anyway. Feel free to correct me in the comments on some points I made.

Every time I hear the term "Elo" in games, it's always referring to the rating system and more often than not the game isn't using Elo, and the same goes for Valorant. So, as any other bored person would do, I did some small research on rating systems and compared them to how it works in Valorant.

First off, you have two separate ratings: your matchmaking rating (MMR) and your rank rating (RR officially, but some call it LP or League Points). Your MMR comes first and is what often determines who you queue with and, to a much lesser degree, calculates your skill in a hidden algorithm. Then, after you play a couple of games, you've unlocked Ranked and with that the MMR will calculate where you are in skill and match you up accordingly with whatever rank your next team is. After this, you play about three games and then the system, working its magic with your new -- currently hidden -- RR, will give you the estimated best rank for you. The rating systems will now introduce a new equation (i don't know the official name for it, if it was ever given one) that will act as "your average score" which indicates what RR your given after every victory. If you perform within your average, you'll get an average score, usually represented by +22 or +26. If you perform above your average, however, you will be awarded accordingly and given more points, somewhere in the +30 range.

All of this is similar to, or may as well be, the Glicko-2 rating system and here's why I think so.Glicko-2, as some or many of you may know, is a heavily-modified Elo system, adding in a system known as the rating volatility σ (Sigma). This new system, like your "average score," calculates your performance, rewarding you depending on how well you do. But that's not the only similarity. There's also rating and rating deviation (RD), which measures your points within a rank and the accuracy of said rank respectively. Same goes for how MMR and RR work hand-in-hand to determine rank and matchmaking queues.

So yeah. TL;DR, even if it doesn't seem like it, Valorant seems to use Glicko-2; if not, a slightly modified version of it.

One day I'll probably go into what the old rating system probably was, but only time (and level of boredom) will tell.

I can only play a few matches a day

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:28 AM PST

So I don't know if this is just me but I have a problem where after a few matches, I start to whiff and just play worse overall. Like the first 3-4 matches I play I top frag consistently but after that, I start to whiff and just overall play worse and bottom frag/almost bottom frag. I don't know what this problem is, maybe fatigue? But ive only played for about 3-4 games (2 hrs - 3 hr). And this happens to me everyday without fail. First matches I play I top frag and after that I just suck.

If you hear someone with a bad speach impediment don't bully them for no reason

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 03:23 PM PST

Just played a match and our teammate had a real bad speach impediment but he was very nice and gave coms and the rest of the team instantly attacked him for it and the kid didn't speak for the rest of the game shit like this really pisses me off they can't control the disorder

Edit: poorly worded in heat of the moment but it just pissed me off cause it's not the first time I hear people mock people with speach disabilities. There is no justification for any type of bullying but I feel like some people don't understand it's not something people can control and don't realize it's a disability which can effect someone one quite badly and make them not want to speak irl and ruining their confidence in their social skills

I didn't get a rank up after this match somehow LOL. I placed Silver 3 this act. The last act I played ranked was Act 2 of Chapter 1. I placed Plat and made it to Diamond 2. In this screenshot, I am Gold 3. Placed in Silver 3 the day this act started. How did the game not just give this one to me? Unreal.

    Cypher Camera Glitch

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:41 AM PST

So I've heard no one talk about this but over the past couple of week playing as Cypher I have encountered a glitch's (bugs).

The most recent one being when I'm using the camera and then someone destroys it (maybe as I tag them). I return to my body and I am frozen, my cypher has his hands out as if I am about to place the camera but I cant do anything, I can see the timer on the camera recharging as it should but I just remain frozen. This has only happened once which was a few days ago.

The second glitch I encountered was when I've gotten off the camera and I'm just frozen, I cant do anything until the enemy destroys my camera and then I am able to move again. this was probably causes by the game thinking I'm still using the camera. This has happened twice.

My connection is mostly good but I feel like there is a chance that that increases the chances of having these bugs occur
