    Follow Up: Female-only Discord Server?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 08:01 AM PDT

    Update from my previous post

The female-only VALORANT discord (http://discord.gg/galorants) has been created!

    What is GALorants

GALorants is a VALORANT Discord server for all female-identifying. We truly hope that this server can be a positive, encouraging community for all girls: whether they feel disillusioned by experiences of harassment, want to make VALORANT friends, or just have fun with a great group of people.

We currently have ~900 members who have helped grow a flourishing, welcoming community in the span of a couple weeks. We've already hosted multiple in-houses, learning sessions for new players, an art contest, and have a tournament coming up this weekend!

How we make sure GALorants stays a safe space

There is a verification process to ensure that all joining members are female-identifying - this is non-negotiable. This server was specifically created to be a female-only space. (This includes trans, female-identifying folks!) If you have questions about your specific situation, please message the mods in the server.

    Our goals

As mentioned in the previous post, our purpose isn't to create a bigger divide between girls and guys who play VALORANT. We hope this server will be a way to boost the confidence of girls to be more active in playing VALORANT rather than being scared away by VC harassment. From there, we hope there will be a natural integration of girls into the broader Valorant community. We have also implemented a rule to prevent unwarranted bashing of 'males' as a group to stay true to this vision.

And finally, thank you, sincerely, to everyone who has shown support for this server. So many people have reached out to help on all sides of the gender spectrum. Thank you.

Ranked should NOT show your rank in the middle of a game.

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 05:41 PM PDT

People will begin the game with a mindset that they're at a disadvantage and even belittle and be toxic towards lower ranked teammates. It should be like rainbow 6 where ranks aren't shown until the end of the game.

Valorant ranked has to be the most enjoyable ranked experience I've had so far.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 10:40 AM PDT

I have played a lot of ranked systems in my gaming life. League of Legends', World of Warcraft Arena, Legends of Runeterra, Overwatch, Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

While it's still very early on in the lifespan of Valorant Ranked, it's beaten the experiences of all of the above games for me.

Games are incredibly balanced, it always feels like the outcome of every round comes down to how well I perform individually. There aren't a lot of "raid bosses" or complete beginners on either team, and when I see someone with a certain rank, it feels like it gives me a very accurate idea of what kind of play I can expect of them.

And then finally, it feels like ranked really factors in how good you actually are. Overwatch's win and loss streaks, queue times, role based shenanigans. Counter Strike's essentially irrelevant and untransparent matchmaking that doesn't tell you whether you gained or lost MMR, League's accurate, but incredibly slow to progress through ranked system, or WoW's pretty good albeit it fairly anticlimatic ranked system. It really feels like Valorant ranked looked at what went wrong in the past with ranked systems and just fixed all of it.

Is it perfect? No. I still would love to see my friends ranks in the friends list. The rank up visuals are not really super hype, and after you hit Radiant ranked essentially turns into a slot machine that can't make you a profit.

    But this? https://i.imgur.com/rU64nyw.png

The fact that I can lose 3 games right after placements, and only win one, and still have an overall MMR increase, feels incredibly motivating. Any other game would have punished me for playing with friends of a different skill level, or for playing on an off day. But ranked hasn't felt this good in a long while, and I really want to thank the devs. I hope they can keep this up!

Do not expect low rank players to have some kind of godlike skill in this game, because if they did, they wouldn't have been low rank

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 09:25 AM PDT

Like most of us are new to this types of games. We are expected to be trash. But thing that you have played csgo for ages and now get triple one round does not give you ANY privilege to flame your teammates in iron/bronze/silver(at least these are ranks I have to play and i constantly deal with these types of players.

If any dev is reading this, thank you for you work. Ranked is amazing. The matches are fair and balanced. The freezes are gone and life is good. Thank you.

If you haven't tried out ranked yet? DO IT!

North America's first Ignition Series tournament is starting very soon, featuring teams such as TSM, T1 and 100 Thieves!

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 12:31 PM PDT

    What is this?

So the VALORANT Ignition Series - the first series of worldwide professional tournaments organised in partnership with Riot Games - is currently underway, with the first two events (the G2 Invitational in Europe and the RAGE Invitational in Japan) having already concluded and the third (the Empire Play Invitational in the Middle East) taking place right now - and in a little under an hour and a half (2 PM PDT) North America's first Ignition Series tournament will commence.

The T1 x Nerd Street Gamers Showdown features 16 of the top teams from North America, with 11 of the teams being invited and 5 coming from qualifiers. Many of the teams feature familiar names from other esports - both the orgs (TSM, T1, 100 Thieves, Cloud9, FaZe Clan, Gen.G, Sentinels, Immortals) and many of the players (Skadoodle, sinatraa, Hiko, ShahZaM, Wardell, corey, psalm, zombs, TenZ, FNS, Ninja). Some of these teams, like TSM, Gen.G and T1 have already proven their merit in tournaments back in the closed beta, others - Sentinels, for example - are still looking to show that they can challenge the best - and for a couple of these teams, 100 Thieves being the most notable one, this is their first ever tournament. There are also a few orgless teams hoping to impress potential sponsors and get their names out there.

    Format

The Showdown features 4 groups, with 4 teams in each group. The group stage is single round robin (every team plays every other team in their group once) and the top 2 from each group move on to the knockout stage - a double elimination bracket which will take place throughout the weekend. Here are all of the teams:

Sadly, only 3 of the matches taking place today will be on stream - T1 vs Team Ninja (scheduled for 2 PM PDT), Sentinels vs Gen.G (scheduled for 5 PM PDT) and T1 vs 100 Thieves (scheduled for 8 PM PDT). The matches will be streamed here, and here you can find more information about the tournament.

Let's hope for some good matches!

[News] Status Updates for Harassment Reports is Currently Being Worked On!

When I sent this tweet to the VALORANT team about wanting status reports for harassment, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they're already working on it! I'm very happy about the actionable, in-game changes that the team is working on to live up to their anti-harassment policies.

Why does it feel like headshots are harder to hit recently?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 05:55 AM PDT

It's most likely just me and my bad aim, but I would had pretty good crosshair placement on someone turning a corner, just for me to die because what I thought to be a headshot was a body. I'm just complaining a this point, but it feels like I have to hit their hair to get a headshot.
