PSA: You can, and people currently are, AFKing with jump-bots.

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 05:19 AM PST

Just encountered this for the second time tonight. A Sova on my team instalocked without saying a word and was AFK from round one. But where most AFKs would get disconnected for inactivity, this one was either running a script or had a physical weight on their keyboard that kept them jumping on the spot for the entire game.

They never returned, meaning that my team never got the extra money or ult orbs that would usually help balance the scale. We also didn't have the option to surrender and were forced to waste 35 minutes of our nights for nothing.

There are multiple people doing this, it's happened to me twice from two different accounts on Sydney servers. It will probably continue to happen for a long time. I'm just trying to bring attention to it so that changes can be made as soon as possible.

We x9 reported them, but it's unlikely they'll get banned. The game doesn't think they were afk.

The reason why skins in Valorant improve your aiming

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:52 AM PST

Many of you have wondered why they play significantly better with weapon skins they picked up than they would otherwise. There are, of course, many factors that alter aiming and confidence. Among them is of course the physical condition of the player. But I don't want to go into that here. We would rather deal with the psychological aspects:

Skins in Valorant have different bullet tracers, which are much clearer and more colorful than those of standard skins. Therefore, when spraying, you can gain a small advantage with skins, because you can see more clearly the directions of the bullets. Of course, this only helps when spraying. Also, these thicker tracers may give you the impression that you shoot more accurately and therefore have higher confidence while shooting.

Still, you've probably also noticed that you generally have better aim with skins as well. This is because, for example, the dragon skin for the Vandal moves less when you run in comparison to the standard skin, giving you the impression of being more accurate while running. This also leads to you shooting earlier on in gunfights while moving and having more confidence while peaking. This is purely a head thing and in truth all weapons are equally strong, but it does affect many players. (I don't want to express that it is pay2win or anything similar, dont get me wrong.)

Edit: "Specially the sound on it plays an interesting role I guess.. I tend to handle it way better." - u/SplashpredictsSplashpredicts is right, I completely forgot to include the role that the different gunsounds are playing. Many skins have different sounds and may feel more powerful than their default variants. This then also leads to better confidence in taking duels or peaking somebody. Likewise, facing quieter sounds from the same weapon can also improve aiming for some, as they feel/think the recoil is less.

Edit 2: Another point that reinforces my theory (slightly): In the First Strike tournament, some professional players used the dragon skin, even though it was considered distracting on the Reddit forum. There must be a reason that people use the skin despite its distracting animations and sounds. It is probably the case, that the dragon skin feels the same as playing the AK47 in CSGO while having turned off gun bobbing. (A lot of pros played professional CSGO before and tend to disable gun movements via console.)

Edit 3: Same applies to the finisher of some skins: They probably feel like cheering you on, giving you even more pride and confidence for the next rounds.

Edit 4: Strongest evidence: u/Joketts added a really interesting video that strengthens the theory even more, see Joketts comment: The video is about the game "Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory", in which there are two identical weapons on each team side, but they sound different. The weapon with the stronger sound was played better by players because they felt better with it. As a consequence, they had to change the sound of the said weapon.
Edit 6: u/Naerly found a similar example regarding the game Fortnite: Naerly's comment

Edit 5: As u/SourLemon9977 pointed out, quieter skin variants like the Singularity-set can possibly help you focus on other sound queues and improve focus in general.

TL;DR: "Look good, feel good, click heads good" - u/theantisober

I hope I was able to provide more clarity with this and thanks for the awards!

Small note because of some hate-comments: I'm not a psychologist, so I can't back up any of the facts one hundred percent, with the exception of the YouTube video about Wolfenstein. There, the developers themselves spoke about this phenomenon. So one can assume that the facts presented are true. Furthermore, it can be said that weapon skins can improve aiming, but they don't have to. Every human is different and has different tastes, cognition and perception.

Softwares used: Photoshop (2D concept and compositing) , Blender (3D model)

This work took me soooo much time to create but it was a lot of fun, I learned new things and experimented new techniques so it's a relief seeing how nice it turned out. The original 2D concept was not mine but with me being a big japanese culture fan i had to work on it and honestly I'm pretty proud. the color choice was pretty simple, alongside the original red (with a slight purple-ish tint) typical of torii gates, i associated a bright and vibrant cyan for 2 reasons: 1) color theory (red and blue/cyan are opposing colors) 2) it's seen in some traditional kitsune masks

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 07:32 AM PST

TLDR: it was a 1 v 3 and these two guys who I assume were two-stacked kept backseat gaming everything our team did. When it came down to me vs the other 3 ppl they kept yelling to use my ult in the worst situations (I was Phoenix). I clutched it by playing bomb smart, and then they just started flaming the shit out of me for no reason, and saying I shouldn't have won. I muted them after that, but I just thought that was funny lmao.

A simple algorithm to determine whether a player is AFKing with bots/scripts

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 10:35 AM PST

Hey all. I study machine learning and have been thinking about ways to implement an algorithm to solve the problem of using bots to AFK without disconnecting.

Since there are only 2 possible outcomes for each classification (AFK or not AFK), it would be fairly easy to build a simple neural network to do the job. Now, every machine learning algorithm needs what we call features or attributes, which are values used by the algorithm to train, and then make decisions based on these features. Here is a short list of some features that could get the job done pretty well:

    1. Distance moved: most bots will just stand in place and jump, or just keep spamming WASD quickly. As a result of that, the player will log very little movement during the game. The higher the distance logged, the less likely that the player in question is AFKing.

    2. Damage done: this one is pretty self explanatory. Even a player placed in an unfairly high ELO will still log a few hundred damage points. Most bots being used don't even shoot, let alone damage players. The higher the damage, the less likely a player is AFKing.

    3. Shot accuracy: first, I thought about making this feature "shots fired," but then the bots would be modified to just shoot randomly. Accuracy would be a better measure. If a player logs a 1% accuracy, he might be using a bot that is just firing randomly into the air. If his bot is shooting enemies, then he's pretty much hacking, which would drive up the cost of the software significantly, and would likely be detected as hacking.

    4. Getting reported by teammates: the more AFK reports against the player in question, the more likely they are AFK.

Now, the goal of this is to classify whether any of the 10 players in a match was AFKing at the end of the match. If the algorithm detects that they are, they would receive no XP, and the match will not be counted towards the requirement for ranked. In other words, that match never happened for that particular player, which would also prevent smurfs from just AFKing in ranked to drop their rank.

Keep in mind that each player is not evaluated in comparison to the other people in that same match. In other words, if you have an accuracy of 20% and your teammate has an accuracy of 70%, you will not get flagged because of that. The way it is done is that the algorithm is trained using thousands of samples of real data obtained from matches, and the optimized model is used for the classification.

Sorry for the long post. Let me know what you guys think about this idea, and feel free to ask any questions!

The future of Valorant aim-training & How you can have a say in the first official Valorant-oriented AimLab maps released!

The Future of Aim-Training for Valorant, and an inquiry to the r/VALORANT community

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys it's Twix again, your (let's be real, probably not) favorite Valorant coach and guide contributor. I am making this post to inform you all of the (in my opinion) future of Aim Training, and ask you all to be a part of it with me.

Now, I know the "future of aim training" and asking you to be a part of it comes off as a tad dramatic, maybe even sounds like I'm pitching you a pyramid scheme sort of endeavour, but I promise you, I really do believe the following information is going to lead to a very different environment for aim trainers in the coming months (yes, it's that close).

This post will not be my stereotypical Guide or "How-to" type of post, but instead, I will give you direct insight into a program / tool I have gotten to test exclusively in the past few months alongside less than 10 people globally (other than the developer team itself), and give you a chance to be a part of this tool's launch.

You will be able to make suggestions for the first set of AimLab's Valorant maps released, meaning some of you may get to see your map ideas in AimLab as fully fledged tasks once the "Creator Studio" update goes live (hopefully by the end of this month!)

    Contents of this Post:

    1. Introducing the Creator Studio
    2. How you can be a part of the Creator Studio's Launch

    Introducing the AimLab "Creator Studio"

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you may or may not know, I made a post a while back in the r/FPSAimTrainer subreddit stating my opinion on the advantages and disadvantages of the AimLab software, and how it stacks up against Kovaak's, you can find the post here. My main concern with AimLab as an aim trainer, was the fact that the sheer amount of available content within Kovaak's vastly surpassed the few pre-set stock tasks that AimLab provided it's playerbase with, but why is that? The reason Kovaak's had such a huge advantage over AimLab, wasn't due to the fact that it was a superior program fundamentally, but due to the fact that Kovaak's users have the ability to create their own "scenarios" and upload them to the workshop, while AimLab till now, didn't allow that as an option. However, as I stated in the aforementioned post, I have been testing a tool called the "Creator Studio" which the AimLab team has developed as their version of a map creation tool and let me tell you, the difference between it and the Kovaak's map creation is night and day.

Here is an example of what scenario editing looks within the Kovaak's client:

    Kovaak's Scenario Editor (Public Beta)

As you can tell, the UI for the scenario editor in Kovaak's looks very primitive and barebones, (keep in mind this is also the public beta branch version, the live version looks even less impressive).

Now here is an example of what the CreatorStudio tool looks like:

    AimLab Creator Studio (Alpha Build)

This is an extremely simple implementation of the features that AimLab's Creator Studio provides the user with, and still, you can instantly very clearly identify both a visual and functional difference between "Creator Studio" and the Kovaak's alternative. What's great about CS (Creator Studio) is that it allows for a user such as myself, with no in-depth background on map design / creation, to hop right into the editor and be presented with a plethora of pre-set objects and spawners which they can customize to their liking.

What's nice about this format is that it allows for begginer creators to still have an accessible baseline to go off of, while simultaneously allowing more advanced creators to utilize a plethora of tools and parameters in order to create not only a "task" as you can in Kovaaks, but an entire map you can use to train on. Imagine that rather than just being able to create a map where you click on targets laid out on a wall, you were able to recreate a 1:1 copy of a Valorant bombsite, in which you can program bots to spawn where you want, and act how you want.

As you may have also noticed, another interesting and in my opinion extremely useful feature in CreatorStudio, is that it allows you to see how the bots you have spawned will act within the map without actually play-testing the map. This means that as soon as I create a bot and tweak it's parameters for it to behave the way I want it to, I can see how that would look like in-game without having to actually initiate a play-test. This helps immensely with creators' workflow.

There are tons more features coming along with CS, one of the most notable being -actually accurate- in depth improvement oriented analytics, but that's something for another post.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How you (yes any of you) can be a part of the Creator Studio's launch maps!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The title of this section means exactly what you think it means, I will be taking direct suggestions as one of the people working within AimLab's Creator Fund, and implementing your ideas into my part of the map pool that will launch alongside the Creator Studio's live release!

    Creator Studio Menu Option

I'll start off by mentioning that at the time being there is no official confirmation on the exact release date of the Creator Studio into live access, but as someone actively involved in the testing & development of the tool, I can confidently say that the largest amount of work in relation to filtering out game-breaking bugs and major inconveniences is over with.

I've discussed ETA with the dev team on multiple occasions and as of now, if nothing unexpected comes up the tool itself should be going live within the next 1-2 months (before February).

Blurred peoples' names just in case they didn't want their participation disclosed.

Now, as I'm a part of the creator team in charge of implementing a baseline of functional maps that will go live along with the release of the Creator Studio, I thought it would be a good idea to ask you guys as a community to give me some insight in relation to what sort of maps you would like to see introduced in the Creator Studio.

I don't want you guys to suggest an already existing Kovaak's scenario, but instead suggest something unique, maybe even something that was previously impossible to create within the Kovaak's scenario editor tool. For your suggestions, since reddit comments can be a bit messy, join my server https://discord.gg/Yq9334EpXn and go to the "map suggestion channel" and make your suggestions. Please include an explanation of why you would think X map would be useful for training Valorant mechanics, and try to keep your write-ups within one post:

    Map Suggestion Channel

For those of you concerned about being unable to substitute some of the core Kovaak's tasks with AimLab (CS) tasks, more specifically Valorant oriented scenarios from my guides, I have something especially for you!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A special thank you to the community

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was recently approached by Kermit of the AimLab team while working on the Creator Studio, and was asked on which Kovaak's tasks I would like to see directly recreated in AimLab to go along with the Creator Studio's live launch. Due to the nature of my posts on this sub, and the clear demand that this community and the members of my server have for Valorant-oriented aim training tasks, I have chosen the maps that will be cloned / ported over to AimLab to be the same maps "starred" as crucial in my updated Valorant training routines.

What this means is that you'll be able to play all of my Valorant related scenarios available in Kovaak's, in AimLab once the Creator Studio update goes live for the public. So, all of you which will be making the transition from Kovaak's to AimLab once CS launches will be able to continue grinding my playlists, but even better, those of you who can't afford Kovaak's or aren't willing to pay for aim-training, will now have access to the exact same experience (if not better cause of more appealing UI and general visuals) without having to pay a single dollar. Hope you all enjoy what AimLab has to offer going forward.

You can find my Valorant training routine posts pinned on my profile, but right now, I want to say thank you to Kermit of the AimLab team for being the absolute best in terms of being helpful and devoted to his role in the progression of AimLab as a whole.

Much thanks to the AimLab team's very own, Kermit!

    Much thanks!

Wood Burning of My Top 5 Favorite Agents

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 01:06 PM PST

Wood Burning of My Top 5 Favorite Agents

    Hello everyone!

My name is Jooshico and I've been playing VALORANT since beta. While I enjoy playing the game, I also enjoy the different art related to the game. For this reason, I decided to make a wood burning of my 5 most favorite agents in the game (not in any particular order).

I've been working on wood burnings for a little under 2 years now, usually making portraits of celebrities/actors, but I enjoy making other things too. It is all done by hand, so it's pretty common for me to make several mistakes each project.

For this project, I burnt (from left to right) Omen, Phoenix, Jett, Breach, and Cypher into a piece of Birch wood. The different coloring is made by different temperature settings of the burner, and the entire piece of wood has no pencil/pen marks at all. The length of the piece is about a foot and a half, so it took me about a week to complete the whole burning.

Hope you all enjoy the art! I added a link to see the main steps I took while making the burning if you would like to see how it was done and more images. Let me know what you think of it and who your favorite agents in VALORANT are! :D

    I love 1v5's in competitive!

All four of my teammates ended up leaving the game at different times. A few DC'd, and Phoenix came back a couple of times, but for 10 rounds, I had to face the enemy team by myself.

I was actually really happy about the enemy team's reaction. They decided to only use knives, so I baited them with Phoenix, camped a few corners, and got Reyna ult every round, and aced twice with Odin.

Eventually, I lost 7-13 and didn't lose rank. I lost the last round to a clutch after I 4k'd. I ended up 32/15/2. I became friends with one of the enemy players and we talked for a bit about how that game was the worst ever. I actually had a lot of fun playing, and for the whole time, I was just laughing. I'm not upset at all at this game, just thankful for good sportsmanship from the other team.

P.S. This is for the high rank players who say AFKs are not a huge problem. Play 20 games in bronze and this happens.
