I'm a 3D modeller student, and since I love the Prime collection (and the default knife a lot) so I try my hand on making this. It's not perfect yet but I hope you like this :)

Hot Take: I think VALORANT should release agents at a slower rate.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:44 AM PST

I actually don't know how much of a hot take this is, but I personally think it is.

I'm not going to get into specifics or propose any plans of my own because I don't know the inner workings of the VALORANT team, but I will report on a few rumblings I've heard from my friends and around the internet. Don't get me wrong, I love getting new agents all the time, but I would like to voice a few concerns.

The majority of the time when I try to get my cs-playing friends to play VALORANT, the main issue they cite is how confusing the game is for beginners, as there are abilities flying everywhere and flashes left and right. Even for my friends who play VALORANT but don't follow it as closely as most of us probably do, they often complain about having to come back to the game to always find a new agent mixing up the gameplay.

Now don't get me wrong, for someone who plays very often, the addition of new agents every 2 months is great and it always keeps the game fresh. However, I would appreciate if instead of releasing a new agent every 2 months, we could get one every 3-4 months, with maybe 3 maps a year instead of 2 because quite honestly I think we need more of them at this point. I understand that Riot has different teams for each of these parts of the game, meaning that affecting one team wouldn't impact the other, but regardless of this I think having a little more time to let new agents marinate and for players to really get to know them would both be a benefit for casual and hyper-competitive players (in terms of fully exploring new agents and how they fit in the meta).

Once again, I understand how much the current act system and design team structure doesn't really make this an easy fix. But especially as the game becomes older, I think slowing down the number of agents added would both help the top levels of play and reduce the barrier of entry for new players. The main thing I really want right now is to see the scene grow and I think this would go a long way in helping.

Why is the information on tournaments so bad?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 02:17 AM PST

Seriously, why is it so difficult to understand what's going on in these tournaments? It's hard to find a simple schedule, who's playing who, where certain teams stand... For a game built for tournaments, I have to say, this is pretty bad. What's challengers vs masters? What was first strike for? Honestly, I'm losing interest in watching the pro scene over lack of a simple webpage displaying very basic information. I had to go to competitive valorant sub reddit to find a similar comment complaining about the samething, only to find vlr.gg which even then only displays times and not wtf is going on... Am I the only one?

I think we should have more detailed ability descriptions ingame.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 06:18 AM PST

I've always been the kind of guy that likes to know every tiny bit of detail about the characters i play in a game, especially when it comes to competitive ones like Valorant or League. Valorant has an amazing description/stats for the weapons in the buy menu like fire rate, penetration, reload speed and so on, but there is nothing about the agent's abilities...

They just have a vague description of what it does when you press F1, but no damage values, no duration, HP, nothing. Just as an example; I've been trying to find how long every flash in the game lasts to compare them but everywhere i look there is a different info.

Why not have all the info shown in game? Same goes for how long smokes last. The only mention we get is in patch notes, but unless something got changed, we won't know the values of an ability for sure unless we test every single one of them individually. Not even Valorant Wiki has those values.

So, please, if any Rioter reads this, consider adding more detailed descriptions to the abilities for players like me, who like to know the details or for regular players, so they can have a laugh when they check that Raze's Paint Shell does 275hp worth of chip damage.

    Thanks anyway!

The rate at which people AFK/Surrender/Give-up in non-ranked is the worst I've seen in any online game.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 03:33 AM PST

I don't know why or where this trend started. I've played counter-strike from before 1.6 when the best way to access the beta was on a demo disk provided by a gaming magazine. I have thousands of hours on Dota 2 also.

I've never seen anything like the amount of cry babies that Valorant produces. Before I could play ranked and when learning a new hero, I will play some unranked. Lucky if I can finish 1 out of 5 games without someone leaving on either side. Calls to surrender after 4 rounds of "UNRANKED"

Players queuing for a game and somehow forgetting that they have something else to do by round 2. When the hell did everyone get so fragile? lol! You won't get any better if you cannot even finish an unranked game ffs.

I think valorant should have a smaller unrated mode.

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 09:38 AM PST

I do enjoy the other modes like escalation and spike rush, and what they bring to the table, i feel as though a smaller unrated would be something that id want. There are times where i want to play unrated but i just dont feel like spending half an hour to an hour in a full game. I think it would be a great addition if Riot added a (insert name of mode here) mode where it follows the same rules as unrated, but swaps at 6 rounds instead of 12. That way people who want to play an unrated but dont have the time or the mood to go the full 12+ rounds can enjoy the unrated style of gameplay. What are peoples thoughts on this?

EDIT: Holy crap i didnt expect this to blow up. Thank you, for not only the awards but the nice discussion! Talking in the comments below ive come to see the flaw, benefits, and alternatives to this idea, which is very interesting! Im glad to be in this community.

Why doesn't Jett's ultimate reset in The Range anymore?

Back 2 acts or 2 major patches ago, your Jett's knives used to be able to reset after killing a bot with either right click or your left click. Did they remove that feature? Why won't it work suddenly. Why did they remove it?

It really helped me practice my knife right clicks. Wish they'd bring it back.

Valorant's weekly viewership on twitch is now the highest since the game launched in June

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 02:24 AM PST

I've seen a lot of threads in other game's subs (Mainly CS:GO) claiming that Valorant is a "ded game" and citing the game's declining twitch number's from Sullygnome. They would also follow this up by saying that Riot is not releasing player numbers because they want to "hide that their game is dying" - yes that is a legit quote.

Well guess what, Valorant has now reached the highest weekly viewership on twitch since the game launched in June. It's surpassed other popular games like Warzone and has nearly 50% more average viewership than CS:GO. Yet, now they don't even talk about the game's viewership.

    Brimstone is Killjoy's guardian?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 11:11 AM PST

So I was looking at the wiki page for Killjoy and at the bottom in her trivia section, it says that Brimstone is her guardian. When I went to Brimstone's page, it also says this as well, but I'm wondering where this information came from? Did we get this from voice lines? I'm very interested in the little amount of lore of characters we have and I'm curious because this is the first time I've seen this!

The Battlepass Teasers for the Next Agent.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 10:01 AM PST

The Battlepass Teasers for the Next Agent.

I know the act just started, but with the knowledge of previous teasers, we can observe and assume based off of a pattern. We know that every battlepass has a card that is related to the next agent in some way.Episode 1 :Tier 48 (KJ), 48 (Skye), 38 (Yoru).Episode 2: 48 (Astra), unknown, unkown.Judging from this pattern, we can assume that this battlepass' 48th tier is the teaser. We have no clue why these numbers are at all important, maybe it's just a significant riot employee's favorite numbers. Now we can get into the details.Tier 48 of this battlepass is the "Lost at Sea?" Card.

    The \"Lost At Sea?\" Card.

Now, the first thing that comes to mind when I read this card out, is wondering why the card is labeled as a question. I believe that this is because the agent is not the one that's "Lost at Sea." But perhaps, the one proposing this question. Like they go to abandoned boats and look for survivors, and ask the question "Lost at Sea?"

Next, is about the giant moon in the background. We know that Valorant takes place in Future Earth, so there's always the chance that the size of the moon is just for aesthetic. However, there is no doubt in my mind that the moon is out of proportion. However, something I would like to point out, is that there are no visible craters. Perhaps, that is instead a frozen planet? Or the craters are just those dark spots. However, I can easily see the white dark spots being frozen land, and the white is frozen water. Maybe we're getting someone related to Sage? I don't know.

Next, I want to point out is the 4 small boats. They seem to be tailing the larger ship, and I can easily envision them being a rescue team, as much as I can envision them being attackers. Like what if we also get a map where we fight on a cargo ship or something? Anyway, maybe the number of ships are significant? No clue.

Next, I want to highlight the giant ship in the forground. This is not the same ship of Attacker Spawn in Icebox, although they're close, and I would not be surprised if they were meant to be the same, just drawn differently. This is because the rear of the card's ship has this marking

    https://preview.redd.it/2xvsy3jreul61.png?width=107&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3a90eaddef450edd9009731dc5ce3cb194b3cdd

Whilst the icebox ship has this marking.

    https://preview.redd.it/37uetq9teul61.png?width=1026&format=png&auto=webp&s=31c4be9efc233d14ceebdbd3aa6a839b084c91e2

We can assume that the card's ship is also Kingdom-related, due to the similar crates that we know and that they belong to Kingdom. We can also assume it's Kingdom-related from a little secret monitor that I can't find anywhere else in the game.

    In this building:

    https://preview.redd.it/jsh7scazeul61.png?width=1703&format=png&auto=webp&s=802e09a67404cc268faae26bc0c0d1b549c9f48f

    Behind this wall:

    https://preview.redd.it/8s4h7mm0ful61.png?width=1414&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea9c442ff684eb8e0da220ab90a36552109acc25

    Behind the fake 2d background:

    https://preview.redd.it/9lfptgo2ful61.png?width=1657&format=png&auto=webp&s=0342f5bae6d20bc9d8a4d2e29a6f8fe860064a2e

    Theres this monitor.

    https://preview.redd.it/kprnvmh3ful61.png?width=1936&format=png&auto=webp&s=d252b2e5ca9a2632b9fd600c19651bc4062a0d3b

It has a sweeping line of darkness that goes over the monitors, so its hard to get a full reading, but theres something important about this."Kingdom Refinery."

    https://preview.redd.it/bkgjgk37ful61.png?width=415&format=png&auto=webp&s=1df2b0923d8a9f38046eb018e4828e925705e9e3

I don't recognize this font from anywhere else in the game, and I have no clue what they would be refining. We don't know if Radianite needs to be refined, but I assume that's what this is for. Whatever is in those crates, Kingdom Refinery probably has to do with it.

Next, is something a bit more important.

    https://preview.redd.it/lr9w55xcful61.png?width=285&format=png&auto=webp&s=5c3882cdba6997736b3794de9d8d543a0f1c7ab7

The bottom of this image depicts a folder with a big "A." On it. There is nothing in this game that I can think of that starts with an A that's significant at all. Maybe it's A for All? A for Agent? I don't know. But more importantly, at the top, it appears to depict several different kinds of marine vessels. I can imagine some of them fit with the Attacker's Spawn in Icebox, and some could match with the ship depicted in Tier 48. However, I wonder why this "A Folder" and all these depictions of ships are tucked behind a fake 2d background behind a glass wall in an otherwise inaccessible location?

Anyway, here is a comparison of these depictions to Icebox's T Spawn.

    https://preview.redd.it/6ixmflcsful61.png?width=1666&format=png&auto=webp&s=d399f5f0cc57fbe30a388c9c999a7ad979194ea9

    https://preview.redd.it/der9oj0tful61.png?width=133&format=png&auto=webp&s=98fcf1f092cffed1c6e18dc1ad3883046f805a8a

Not perfect, but I could imagine it if the depiction had more pixels.

Anyway, closing thoughts. The full "moon" in the background is clearly being emphasized, so its importance may be for this new agent, or for future lore. The 4 ships might be a reasoning onto why the Attackers in Icebox start on a Kingdom Ship instead of anything else. The importance of marine vessels might show up later, and the next agent is related to saving/interacting with people that are journeying the ocean.

    EDIT:
Also regarding the joke names in the files for these cards.
    Episode 1:
    KJ : "KJTease"
    Skye : "Birb"
    Yoru : "Woah"

Astra : "R4kiya" which we found out to be a Riot employee, in charge of weapon effects.
Assuming I'm right, and that they don't throw us a curveball and "Lost at Sea?" is really the teaser, then the name of this card is "Boat"
    Boring, I know.
Hell if we go off of the funny card names, Paul, the employee of the month, could be our next agent. I would not be opposed.

Riot on the Current State of FFA Deathmatch

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 05:27 PM PST

Jared Berbach, the Lead Modes Producer, tweeted:

Let's talk about the current state of FFA DM in @PlayVALORANT and the future of FFA and "warmup" style modes.

We have a lot of plans here, but also a lot of work to do to get to the place that we desire to be. Curious on all of your thoughts about modes/goals...

    Thread.

Currently, we're seeing relatively healthy queue times, match quality/disparity, and participation in FFA DM. The population that plays the mode is a relatively low one compared to other modes, but they are very dedicated. Satisfaction is decent, but we think it could be higher!

Our current hypothesis is that the mode is singular, but is trying to serve two different audiences:

Audience 1: People who want a FFA style match with a beginning, middle, end, and a winner. These players are currently being served a bit more than audience 2. The health pickups, respawns, map rotation, match length etc. all serve this need relatively well. These players want a short mode and quick action to fit into limited time windows or in between high stress matches.

Audience 2: People who strictly want to warm up or put on some music and do what @hazedCS is talking about for 2 hours straight, either just getting in the zone or practicing aim skill in a rapid fashion against live human targets. This audience generally wants to get in and stay in for a long time, but then also leave when they are ready. In order to do this correctly, we need some tech that we're spinning up and working on: Commonly referred to as join in progress (or "drop in")

Right now, VALORANT game services don't check to see if new players want to join. We also need to rewrite matchmaking to accomodate joining players to matches in progress and seeing if they are "healthy" from a people and skill perspective. Actively working on and planning this.

This work is actually relatively complex, so we're putting in the time to make sure it's great plan for the future of VALORANT and a great play experience. I know it can be frustrating to wait as a player, but we hope this is worth it.

Once we have this tech, we can create a game mode that is strictly for Audience 2 above. FFA "Infinite/Warmup". We'll likely let players play very long or infinite matches, only closing down a match if they become unhealthy (tm). We can join and let players leave when they want.

In this type of match, we can also change a bunch of the game rules. Maybe you always go back to full health and fully reloaded weapon on kill. We're flexibile here, and will try to accomodate what players are asking for to maximize uptime in targeting heads and getting aim prac.

This leaves audience 1. Our hope here is to create more of a novel or rotating type mode experience that challenges players who want to play FFA DM but also have a match beginning and end, and a winner. This matches more to popular non tac games. We'll also have more freedom...

We can try things like killstreaks, powerups, or make FFA matches more akin to Escalation/Arms Race/Gun Game. We can change various rules or even add teams. We can still keep these games under 10m to fit into lifestyle.

Again, we're taking our time to make sure this is an awesome player experience. This also opens up the potential for us to prioritize other work like potentially rotating more modes, or maybe even the tech to allow people to "warm up" while in queue for something like ranked...

Although that's significantly more work than the join in progress tech I mentioned above. Yet another entire complex feature, but one we hope to potentially prioritize in the future.

The thing I want to stress here is that we (hopefully) understand the need being expressed here. If you don't think we've got it yet, let us know! Definitely open to feedback and keeping the conversation open!

Even if you mean well, I think giving unsolicited advice/tips to your teammates is counterproductive

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 06:56 AM PST

This obviously is situational, but time and time again I've noticed that serious fights and toxicity start a lot with one player giving unsolicited advice to another (i.e telling them to aim higher in the middle of a clutch is what I notice most) and that player getting offended over it.

Honestly it makes sense, especially if you're frustrated, someone giving unwanted advice gives off a vibe that they think they're better than you even if that wasn't the intention. After seeing so many fights break out cause of this I honestly think it'd be more productive to just let the person play, especially if the thing they struggle with is something like aim or game sense, which takes practice to get the hang of. Of course if it's something that takes a second to fix, like letting your teammate know you can right click a Classic to let out 3 simultaneously firing bullets, that's different, but still I think people should just back off tbh
